Klimaforum09 Peoples Declaration finalized, open to signatures until Dec. 13
The vision of Klimaforum09, ’A Peoples Declaration’ that expresses the hopes, ideas, solutions and visions of citizens groups and social movements from all corners of the planet is completed and ready to sign on.
The declaration initiated in response to fears that the official climate deal would focus on technological fixes and bias towards the rich and powerful nations and corporate lobby interests. In contrast, says Klimaforum09, the Peoples Declaration puts forth a vision of a more socially just world society, one that emphasizes “the need to create substantial changes in the social and economic structures of society in order to meet the challenges of global warming and food sovereignty.”
The Klimaforum09 declaration working group invited civil society groups, grassroots, indigenous people, and local communities from all over the world to come forth with ideas and solutions rooted in their local experience with climate change.
The actual declaration was finalized Friday afternoon and although not in its final edit is up at the Klimaforum09 site. To read the Declaration and sign on, click here. To go directly to the sign on page, click here.
Klimaforum09 will hand the Declaration over to the political leaders at COP15, for inspiration and guidance on how to put together a fair and just climate deal. Above all, Klimaforum09 says, the declaration will be another stepping stone in building of a planetary movement for climate justice.
