Beginning Saturday, LIVE coverage from Copenhagen
This Saturday, Terri Hansen and Mother Earth Journal begin their live coverage of Indigenous events, exhibits, declarations, and talks from Copenhagen. Not coverage of the talks at the 15th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – that’s because Indigenous peoples have no legal standing at the table, even though many of the projected impacts of climate change are already taking the form of disasters, and indigenous communities have a front row seat to some of these earliest disasters resulting from climate change.
Many of the indigenous people there are traveling by air for the first time. I’ll talk with them and bring their stories to you.
The Indigenous Voices on Climate Change Film Festival debuts today in Copenhagen, with compelling stories of climate disruption from indigenous communities around the world. You can watch the film festival live on IsumaTV. For a background on how video recorders reached some of these indigenous communities, check out Conversations with the Earth.
Indigenous Day is December 12th, with a rally, speeches and events. Indigenous Declarations, workshops and other events will continue throughout the talks at Klimaforum09. I’ll post videos and interviews with indigenous leaders.
I would like to thank the International Funders for Indigenous Peoples for funding independent journalism. IFIP has made this trip to report from Copenhagen possible. I will be reporting for Indian Country Today, and blogging for News from Indian Country, High Country News and GoGreenNation, as well as providing content for Native American and Indigenous newsletters.
Join the chorus! Send your greetings to COP15
